Summer School Literacy Program with LISSEC School

Updated: 3 hours ago

Let It Shine Secondary School (LISSEC) is a tuition-free secondary school located in the Yaba Mainland area, dedicated to providing education to children who lack access to formal schooling. Every year, we partner with LISSEC to organize a literacy-focused summer school program aimed at improving students' reading and writing abilities, while also providing teacher training to ensure effective literacy instruction.

The month-long program is designed to be both intensive and engaging, offering a structured yet interactive learning experience. The curriculum focuses on strengthening foundational literacy skills, ensuring that students not only improve their reading and writing but also develop a deeper appreciation for learning. At the same time, the program includes professional development for LISSEC's teachers, equipping them with the tools and strategies needed to deliver high-quality literacy instruction year-round.

Following the completion of the summer program, volunteers from our foundation continue to support LISSEC by periodically visiting the school to monitor the students' progress.

These visits provide an opportunity to reinforce the skills students gained during the summer school and offer additional guidance where needed, ensuring that the impact of the program extends well beyond the summer months. This ongoing support helps to solidify students' learning and ensures that both students and teachers continue to grow and thrive in their educational journey.
